COCHABAMBA, Bolivia – William Keenan, OFM, 90, a professed Franciscan friar for 66 years and a priest for 62, died Dec. 18 in the Belgian Clinic. He was an alumnus of Holy Name Province.
William, a native of Rochester, N.Y., was serving as a missionary in Bolivia, where he had been stationed since 1984. While a member of Holy Name Province, he served for 13 years in parishes in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He also ministered for 12 years as a hospital chaplain in New York City and Olean, N.Y.
A wake was held on Dec. 19 at San Francisco Church in Cochabamba, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated there the following day.
