Robert Wickenheiser, the former president of St. Bonaventure University, is selling his extensive collection of works of English poet John Milton to the University of South Carolina for $1 million, according to the Buffalo News.

Wickenheiser, a Milton scholar, has spent much of his life putting together his 6,000-volume collection, considered one of the finest of its kind in North America.

Wickenheiser, St. Bonaventure’s first lay president, was forced to resign in 2003 after he permitted an ineligible player, who was allowed to transfer to St. Bonaventure, to join the men’s basketball team. The recruiting scandal brought national notoriety to Bona’s, which was removed from NCAA probation in June.
