Timothy Monahan, OFM
1893 – 1972
Fr. Timothy Monahan, OFM, was born Sept. 8, 1893 in Philadelphia. He entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1911, professing temporary vows one year later. Fr. Timothy made his solemn profession in 1915 and was ordained in 1918.
He served in pastoral ministry for 53 years, also ministering as a seminary professor and guardian. Fr. Timothy’s ministry as part of the Province’s Mission Band took him to many dioceses and parishes where he preached the Gospel, celebrated the Eucharist, and reconciled thousands of hurting people throughout the years. He was a dedicated chaplain in several hospitals during his final years of ministry, continuing to bring the grace of God to the lives of many through his words and the sacraments.
He died on Jan. 13, 1972 in Butler, N.J. Fr. Timothy was 78 years old, a professed friar for 59 years and a priest for 53 years.
