Peter Pfister

1875 – 1948

Fr. Peter Pfister, OFM, was born Aug. 4, 1875 in Munich. He came to the United States at age 16 and entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1891, professing temporary vows one year later. Fr. Peter made his solemn profession in 1895 and was ordained in 1898.

His pastoral ministry took him to St. Elizabeth Parish, Denver, for 11 years, St. Stephen Friary, Croghan, N.Y., for three years and St. Bonaventure Friary for 20 years. He also served at various sanctuaries in Palestine and Egypt for five years.

He died on Jan. 15, 1948 in Jersey City, N.J. Fr. Peter was 72 years old, a professed friar for 55 years and a priest for 39 years.
