Michael V. Perry

1920 – 2000

Fr. Michael Perry, OFM, was born in Reynoldsville, Pa., on Jan. 6, 1920. In 1937, he entered St. Joseph Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, N.Y., and he was received into the Province’s novitiate in 1939 at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J.

He professed simple vows in 1940 and solemn vows in 1942. Fr. Michael was ordained a priest in 1945.

Fr. Michael’s first assignment was to Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y., where he taught and assisted in the registrar’s office. From 1951 to 1953, he taught at St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, N.Y. Fr. Michael returned to Siena College in 1953 and remained there until 1989. At Siena, he was an associate professor, director of admissions, chairman of the science department and vice president.

In 1989, Fr. Michael retired to St. Anthony Friary in Butler, N.J., where he stayed for nine years. In 1998, he was transferred to Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J.

Fr. Michael died there Sept. 19, 2000. He was 80 years old, a professed friar for 60 years and a priest for 55 years.
