Laurence P. Rainville

1919 – 2009

Fr. Laurence Rainville, OFM, was born June 8, 1919 in Hudson Falls, N.Y., and baptized Bernard. He was received into the Order at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1941 and professed temporary vows one year later. Fr. Laurence made his solemn profession in 1945 and was ordained in 1947.

He briefly served as assistant at St. Anthony Shrine before joining the faculty of Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y., that fall as an assistant professor of mathematics and physics. From 1978 to 1982, Fr. Laurence served as the first director of the computer science program at Siena. He taught for one year at Ohio State University before returning to Loudonville in 1983, where he remained until he transferred to Holy Name Friary, Ringwood, N.J., in 2009.

He died there on April 13, 2009. Fr. Laurence was 89 years old, a professed friar for 66 years and a priest for 61 years.
