Aloysius Hopkins

1918 – 1960

Fr. Aloysius Hopkins, OFM, was born on May 1, 1918 in Philadelphia. After attending St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y., he entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1939. He professed temporary vows one year later, made his solemn profession in 1943 and was ordained in 1945.

After a brief period of service at St. Mary Parish, Americus, Ga., and at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in New York City, Fr. Aloysius was assigned to the Province’s Mission Band.

He died on Jan. 21, 1960 at St. Augustine Church, Thomasville, Ga. Fr. Aloysius was 41 years old, a professed friar for 19 years and a priest for 14 years.
