NEW YORK — Churches throughout the Province are joining their ecumenical partners this week in the national Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
The observance, when churches are urged to “pray without ceasing,” as St. Paul said in his letter to the church at Thesolinica, holds special meaning for Franciscan churches.
The Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Atonement at Graymoor monastery in Garrison, N.Y., started the week in 1908, which this year is being observed from Jan. 18 to 24.
More than 100 years later, Christians around the world continue to celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, with support from the World Council of Churches and the Vatican.
