Vocation Office Releases Spanish DVD

Maria Hayes Friar News

NEW YORK — The Province has a new tool to deliver information about the life and ministry of its friars. At the end of last month, the HNP Vocation Office distributed a Spanish DVD titled “Respondiendo al Llamado,” or “Answering the Call” to ministries around the Province. Supervised by vocation director Brian Smail, OFM, and produced by Octavio Duran, OFM, of St. Anthony’s Guild, the video highlights HNP ministries and fraternity and follows the same theme as the existing English video.

“It tells our vocation story,” said Brian.

“Respondiendo al Llamado” features the vocation stories of George Camacho, OFM, of Holy Name College, Silver Spring, Md., Erick López, OFM. of St. Camillus Parish, Silver Spring, and Edgardo Zea, OFM, of Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y., and shows footage shot around the Province. The video, roughly five minutes in length, is available on the vocation office’s website.

“It is very well done,” said Brian. “Octavio did a great job.”

The video is the latest in a series of efforts made by the HNP Vocation Office to provide more Spanish informational materials. The recently produced Be a Franciscan brochure is being translated into Spanish and will be mailed to all sites upon its completion.

Copies of the DVD will be available at next month’s Spanish Vocation Retreat, whose location is being changed from Holy Name College to St. Joseph Seminary at 1200 Varnum St., NE, Washington, D.C. according toChristopher Posch, OFM, chair of the HNP Hispanic Ministry Committee, which encourages friars to display the new version of the event flyer at their ministries.
