NEW YORK — The Provincial Council has announced the names of two new pastors for whom they have recently received approval from the bishops. Both friars are natives of Western New York and graduates of St. Bonaventure University.
Kevin Downey, OFM, will become pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Triangle, Va., where Charles Miller, OFM, is finishing his term. Bishop Paul Loverde of the Arlington, Va., Diocese has appointed Kevin pastor effective July 1.
Kevin, a 1973 graduate of St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, N.Y., has served as pastor of St. Mary’s Parish in Pompton Lakes, N.J., since 2002. Before that, he was pastor of St. Bonaventure Parish in Allegany after having served six years as parochial vicar of St. Mary’s Parish. Charles will continue in Triangle as associate pastor.
Frank Sevola, OFM, will succeed Kevin as pastor of St. Mary’s. Bishop Arthur Serratelli, of Paterson, N.J., appointed Frank, effective July 1. Since 2002, Frank has been director of the St. Francis Chapel in Providence, R.I.
Frank is a 1982 graduate of St. Bonaventure, entering the Franciscans in 1983. In 2006, he became pastor of the Church of St. Mary on Broadway, Providence, when the Franciscans assumed care of the parish. Prior to his assignment in Providence, Frank served as parochial vicar at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church in Hartford, Conn.
