NEW YORK — Cidouane Joseph, OFM, and Erick Lopez, OFM, will be ordained to the priesthood on May 21. The Mass will be celebrated by Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, former archbishop of Newark, N.J., and Washington, D.C., at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church on New York’s Upper West Side. Both candidates for ordination have connections to the parish.

Cid, a native of Haiti, was a parishioner of Holy Name when he came to the United States in 2002. He participated in an internship at the parish as part of his formation from June 2009 to June 2010. Erick, a native of Cuba, worked at Holy Name Parish while he was a postulant from 2003 to 2004.

Both Cid, who is currently at the Province’s parish in Hartford, Conn., and Erick, who is at Holy Name College in Silver Spring, Md., professed solemn vows as Franciscans in August 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Midtown Manhattan. Videotaped interviews of the two friars can be found on the Join Us page of the Province’s website, under “Meet Our Student Friars.”

Holy Name of Jesus Church is at the corner of Amsterdam Avenue and 96th Street.
