TRIANGLE, Va. — As part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the founding of St. Francis of Assisi Church here, 39 members of the parish are traveling to Assisi and Rome this month for a ten-day pilgrimage.
Frank McHugh, who is serving as “chaplain” for the group, said he “is very excited to return to Italy again. I was over last spring to visit with my classmate, Joe Rozansky, but this time, we will spend more time in Assisi and the surrounding countryside.”
For many of the parishioners, it is their first time traveling to Assisi, and it promises to be one of the high points of this anniversary year, Frank said. The group plans to spend six days in Assisi, followed by three days in Rome.
Information about the experiences of the pilgrims will be available after they return home. The trip participants depart on March 20.
St. Francis of Assisi has planned a variety of other events, both social and spiritual, to commemorate its half-century milestone.
