NEW YORK — The Provincial Administration announces news about two friars and four new postulants.
George Camacho, OFM, was received as a novice for Holy Name Province in Cedar Lake, Ind., on June 25.
Four men — John Aherne, Pedro Corces, Frank Souza, and Jeffrey Upshaw— have begun their year as postulants in Holy Name Province. On June 21, they arrived at St. Paul Friary in Wilmington, Del., the site of the postulant program this year. On June 26, the four traveled to St Bonaventure University, Allegany, N.Y, where they are currently attending introductory classes at the Franciscan Institute for two weeks and then general orientation classes in Catholic theology and liturgy before making a retreat at nearby Mt. Irenaeus. They will return to Wilmington in August for a formal ceremony welcoming them into the Province as postulants.
Daniel Sulmasy, OFM, has requested a year of exclaustration from the Order, effective July 10, for reasons of vocational discernment. “Daniel wanted to celebrate together with his brothers his 25 years in Holy Name Province, but at the same time is asking for some space to reflect on continuing to live as a professed friar,” said Provincial Vicar Dominic Monti, OFM, adding, “We offer him our prayers and support during this coming year.”
