The Provincial Council has announced 12 new friar assignments.
Friars living at St. Anthony Residence in Boston are in the process of moving in the wake of the decision to close that community. The following friars are now assigned to St. Anthony Friary in Butler, N.J.: Jude Murphy, OFM, as of May 12, Bernardine Kessing, OFM, as of May 16, Carmel Miotke, OFM, as of May 18, Charles Gilmartin, OFM, as of May 25, and Nathanael Necaster, OFM, as of June 5.
Two friars have been assigned to St. Anthony Shrine in Boston; they are Howard O’Shea, OFM, and Eric Carpine, OFM, effective May 10 and 11 respectively. Two friars — Albert Aldrich, OFM, and Vianney Devlin, OFM — have been assigned to St. Anthony Friary in St. Petersburg, Fla., effective May 22.
Michael Calabria, OFM, has been given permission to take a leave of absence from the faculty of St. Bonaventure University to pursue his Arab and Islamic studies full time at the University of Exeter. Beginning July 1, Michael will reside at Darnall Hall on the Georgetown University campus in Washington, D.C., and will be officially attached to the friar community at Holy Name College in Silver Spring, Md.
Frank Critch, OFM, has been assigned to St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Triangle, Va., effective June 1. He will be ordained to the diaconate in September following his solemn profession in August.
James Sabak, OFM, has been given permission to accept a faculty position in the department of theology at Providence College, effective July 1. He has been assigned to St. Leonard Friary in Boston.
