ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Bishop Timon – St. Jude High School in South Buffalo, N.Y., held its annual Kaleidoscope dinner and auction on April 28 to benefit the Fr. Joel A. Campbell, OFM, Scholarship fund. Established several years ago, this year’s scholarship dinner included a DVD presentation that celebrated Joel’s life. Each attendee received a complimentary copy of the DVD that includes narration by Edward Coughlin, a Timon graduate, and a recording of the Peace Prayer by the Timon choir.
At the celebration at Orchard Park Country Club, school principal Thomas Sullivan presented 12 reasons for supporting the effort by introducing 12 Timon students, scholarship recipients. He invited one young man to share the story of what the scholarship has meant to him and his family.
The theme of the dinner was “ever changing, ever growing, an evening of celebration.”
A memorial Mass in honor of Joel, who died earlier this year, was celebrated in the school auditorium on Friday evening April 27. Gabriel Scarfia was the celebrant, and Fr. Richard (Duke) Zajack, a priest of the Dioceseof Buffalo, preached the homily. Joel’s three sisters from Philadelphia and long-time friend Mary Ann Gottstine were among the guests at both events, as was Thomas Sheehan.
Copies of the DVD are available from Bishop Timon-St. Jude H.S. by calling 716-826-3610.
