BRONX, N.Y. – Provincial Minister John O’Connor accepted three men into the fraternity of Holy Name Province as postulants during evening prayer on August 13 at Holy Cross Church here.

The new postulants, Antonio Cornier of Miami, Fla., Luis Nuñez of the Bronx, N.Y., and Peter Viccione of Providence, R.I., were presented tau crosses as a symbol of their postulancy. The three will be under the direction of Ronald Pecci and William Herbst, the pre-novitiate directors.

Before he presented the men to John, Vocation Director Gregory Jakubowiczspoke to the new postulants and gave them three symbolic gifts. He presented them with a bar of soap, to symbolize that they will get their hands dirty in their new journey; a can of foot powder, to symbolize the fact that the journey will be a difficult one; and a flower, to remind them that, although the journey will be difficult, they will encounter much beauty.

About 30 friars and Allegany sisters were present for the reception ceremony. A number of the friars stayed for a festive preprandium and dinner.
