One Year Ago
April 3-7, 2017 – Provincial Minister Kevin Mullen, OFM, and Lawrence Hayes, OFM, traveled to Ireland to attend the English-speaking Conference’s spring meeting, spending five days exchanging news, participating in a study day and learning about Franciscan history. The next ESC meeting is being held in London from April 9 to 13.

Five Years Ago
April 10, 2013 — Holy Name Province friars – including Erick López, OFM, and Christopher Posch, OFM – were among 10,000 people who rallied in Washington for immigration reform. For many years, friars and partners-in-ministry have advocated for fair treatment of immigrants especially those who came to this country as children and have, in the past, been protected from deportation.

April 20, 2013 — Nearly 50 former friars and their guests attended a friar family reunion in New York City organized by Michael Carnevale, OFM.

10 Years Ago
April 1, 2008 — St. Bonaventure University in Western New York held a convocation to begin a 15-month celebration of the school’s 150th anniversary.

April 19, 2008 — Fifteen friars concelebrated Mass with Pope Benedict XVI during his pastoral visit to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.

15 Years Ago
April 19, 2003 — Upon his retirement at age 90, the late Francis Muller, OFM, former general councilor for the Order, was feted by the New York Metropolitan Tribunal and was presented with a medallion from Cardinal Edward Egan. Francis died on July 24, 2003.

20 Years Ago
April 1, 1998 – Louis Iasiello, OFM, assumed the office of director of the Naval Chaplains’ School in Newport, R.I. In 2003, the Senate confirmed his presidential appointment as Chief of Navy Chaplains. Louis retired from the Navy in 2006.
