Some notable June events that took place around Holy Name Province:

One Year Ago
June 5, 2010 — Gerald Hopeck, OFM, and Michael Reyes, OFM, professed first vows during a Mass at St. Paul Church in Wilmington, Del. (On June 11,George Camacho, OFM, will make his simple profession with the interprovincial novitiate in Cedar Lake, Ind. Gerald and Michael recently began summer assignments at St. Francis International School and St. Anthony Shrine, respectively.)

June 24, 2010 — Fifteen friars celebrated silver and golden jubilees of profession at the Province’s annual jubilee celebration held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Midtown Manhattan. (This year, six friars will commemorate profession anniversaries at St. Francis Church on June 30.)

Five Years Ago
June 3, 2006 — Provincial Minister John O’Connor, OFM, received the first vows of then-novices Cidouane Joseph, OFM, Erick Lopez, OFM, and Paul O’Keeffe, OFM. Forty friars attended the joyful ceremony in Wilmington. (On May 21, 2011, Cid and Erick were ordained priests. Paul, who professed solemn vows in August with the newly ordained friars, was at Holy Name of Jesus Church in New York along with many others to support and celebrate with his classmates.)

June 23, 2006 — Louis Iasiello, OFM, retired from his position as the 23rd chief of naval chaplains. More than 600 attended the change of office ceremony held in Washington, D.C. Lou was first commissioned as a Navy chaplain lieutenant in the reserves in 1981. (Today, Lou serves on the formation faculty of the Pontifical College Josephinium in Columbus, Ohio, a role he began in August 2010.)

June 9, 1986 — The Provincial Infirmary was relocated to Mt. Alverno Center in Warwick, N.Y., from St. Bonaventure Universtity in Allegany, N.Y. (Today, the Province cares for infirm friars at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J., where A. Francis Soucy, OFM, is guardian and director.)
