HNP Communications Around the Province

NEW YORK — Some notable Holy Name events that took place in the past 25 years during the month of March are listed below.

One Year Ago
March 4, 2008 — Holy Name Province celebrated the opening of the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge New York City, the only Metropolitan area guesthouse for persons undergoing cancer treatment. Provincial Minister John O’Connor, OFM, Jerome Massimino, OFM, and Alan Thomas, OFM, attended the event.

March 29, 2008 — General Minister Jose Rodriguez Carballo, OFM, and other leaders of the Order of Friars Minor visited several ministry sites in Holy Name Province, including St. Francis of Assisi Friary in New York and St. Bonaventure University in Western New York. The visit was in connection with a meeting of the English-speaking Conference of the Order.

March 31, 2004 — Mathias Doyle, OFM, was named General Visitor to the Irish Province.

March 26, 1999 — Richard Mucowski, OFM, was installed as the sixth president of St. Mary’s College, Leavenworth, Kan.

March 16, 1989 — Louis Canino, OFM, founder of Boston’s St. Francis House, was one of four recipients of the 1989 Humanitarian Award of the Association of Religious and Value Issues in Counseling.

March 23, 1984 — Fire destroyed the candle room on the sixth floor of St. Anthony’s Shrine in Boston.
