Jan. 28, 2008 — Cardinal Edward Egan, archbishop of New York, presided at a Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church on West 31st Street, celebrating the bicentennial of the Archdiocese of New York.

January 1994 — Three friars –- Barry Langley, OFM, Patrick Tuttle, OFM, and William Weiksnar, OFM — were ordained deacons in Washington, D.C.

Jan. 3, 1989 — The Vice Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, Goias, Brazil, was formally established as an independent entity at ceremonies held at the church and friary of Sant’Ana in Alapolis. Gerald Mudd, OFM, who lives at the St. Bernardine of Siena Friary in Loudonville, N.Y., was among the provincial councilors named.

Jan. 23, 1989 — Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J., the Province’s skilled nursing facility, received its first group of residents.
