NEW YORK — Some notable events that took place this month in the Province’s history are shown below.
One Year Ago
Dec. 2, 2007 — The first Mass at the new St. Clare Parish in Buffalo, N.Y., was celebrated. The parish is a merger of five churches, including the Province’s Sts. Rita & Patrick Church.
Five Years Ago
Dec. 25, 2003 — A fire damaged part of the facilities at St. Francis Inn in Philadelphia.
Ten Years Ago
Dec. 16, 1998 — The first Mass was celebrated at the new (and current) location of St. Francis Chapel in Colonie, N.Y., in Wolf Road Shoppers Park.
Fifteen Years Ago
Dec. 31, 1993 — St. Francis Retreat Center in Rye Beach, N.H., was closed. It had been used by the Province for more than 40 years.
