Steps on the Franciscan Journey

HNP Communications In the Headlines

It is a season of milestones for HNP friars. On Aug. 27, two will profess their final vows as Franciscans.

Stephen DeWitt, OFM, and Daniel Horan, OFM — with friends and family looking on — will profess their solemn vows at an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church on W. 31st Street in New York City. On Sept. 3, Steve and Dan will be ordained deacons at a Mass at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.

Andrew Reitz, OFM, pastor of St. Francis, has invited the friars to gather this Saturday morning in the Clare Room of St. Francis House, after breakfast in the friary, to prepare for procession to the church.

This Mass is taking place just two days after five men join the Province as postulants.

On Aug. 25, these five will be formally welcomed by Holy Name Province in a ceremony at St. Paul’s Church, Wilmington, Del., where they will live until May 2012.

In addition, on Sept. 15, Ross Chamberland, OFM, will profess simple vows to Provincial Minister John O’Connor, OFM, at Holy Name College in Silver Spring, Md. Before transferring to Holy Name Province in 2010, Ross was a simply professed Capuchin friar in St. Mary Province.
