EASTON, PA. — Do you like music, games and the outdoors?  All are welcome to the 40th  annual Franciscan Family Day at St. Francis Retreat House on Aug. 19 for an afternoon of festivities that begin with a Polka Mass at 1 p.m.

The retreat center, beginning its fifth decade of operation, will feature the Changing Times Quartet musical group at the Mass in the chapel.  The celebration also includes a picnic, raffle and tricky tray with more than 50 items.

Information and directions to the retreat house, located in eastern Pennsylvania near New Jersey, are available by phone at 610-258-3053 and email demith2094@arcn.com.

Photos of the last Franciscan Family Day appeared in the Fall 2011 issue of the St. Francis Retreat House News Notes newsletter, which also reported on the center’s 50th anniversary commemoration in October.  The celebration was “about giving thanks for the place that, 50 years after its founding, is still mending hearts, still changing lives,” according to the publication.

Fr. Frank Jasper, OFM, provincial vicar of St. John the Baptist Province, thanked “the people who make up St. Francis Retreat House and that’s all of you: staff, board members, volunteers,” said the newsletter. “I can’t tell you how often I’ve heard the place would not make it without the volunteers.”

The retreat center is used by many groups for meetings and special events.  In October 2010, Holy Name Province held its annual guardians meeting at St. Francis Retreat House, and in 2011 the communication directors of the OFM English-speaking Conference provinces met there.
