PATERSON, N.J. — St. Bonaventure Church here is planning a series of activities to commemorate its 130th anniversary this year.
The celebration was launched over Christmas weekend with the official opening of Jubilee 2008. Some of the major events for this year include:
► A parish picnic on July 4 and commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the dedication of the church at a 5 p.m. Mass.
► Observance of the patronal feast of St. Bonaventure on July 15; a potluck supper will be held on the parish’s upper great lawn following 7 p.m. Mass.
► A presentation by Provincial Vicar Dominic Monti, OFM, on Sept. 29. He will speak on “The Coming of the Friars to Paterson, 1876.”
► A gala jubilee dinner on Nov. 16, to be held in Haledon, N.J.
“The 130th Jubilee year will surely be a time of grace and opportunity for us to continue our transformation into Christ,” said pastor Daniel Grigassy, OFM. “We have a glorious history here at St. Bon’s.”
Daniel is the 28th pastor of the St. Bonaventure Church, which was dedicated by Bishop Michael Corrigan in 1878. The parish comprises approximatey 525 households.
