Sr. Jeanne Maffet, OSC

Sr. Jeanne Maffet, OSC, died 15 minutes after the stroke of midnight on Dec. 26, 2022, three days short of her 76th birthday, reports Russel Murray, OFM, who asked that all friars remember her in their prayers.

Throughout her professed life, the Poor Clare nun shared her creative and musical gifts – singing and playing the guitar, and weaving and sewing decorative items, according to Russel. Sr. Jeanne had put all of the finishing touches on the Christmas decorations at the Monastery of St. Clare in Evansville, Indiana, where she resided and had served her community as the abbess for three terms over the years.

“Sr. Jeanne was an incredible witness to sisterly care, dedication, and leadership in her community, despite her own great physical challenges through the years,” said Russel. “She will be greatly missed by her sisters, friends, and family, as well as by all of us in the Holy Name Province community who were privileged to know and work with her over the years.”

A 10 a.m. Memorial Mass is being celebrated for Sr. Jeanne at the Monastery of St. Clare, with Bishop Joseph Siegel of the Diocese of Evansville presiding.
