ANDERSON, S.C. — St. Mary of the Angels Church here awarded the Francis Medal to parishioner Anthony Soignoli to mark the Feast of St. Francis on Oct. 4.
Pastor Aubrey McNeil, OFM, requested that the medal go to Anthony for his longtime service to the church. “He is a person who is very generous with himself and his time,” said Aubrey. His service has included membership on the parish council, of which he was president, chairperson of the Visioning Committee, and member of the Refounding Committee.
Most recently, he chaired the Building Committee and was clerk of the works for construction of the new church, which required him to travel to Charleston to meet with the building commission, as well as maintain detailed records for the diocese, and assure that the project was not delayed. Twice a day, he visited the site to inspect the quality of workmanship.
“Tony is unassuming and embodies the values and virtues of St. Francis,” said Aubrey. “He is a worthy candidate for the honor.”
