NEW YORK — A four-day retreat for friars, ages 60 and up, is being held in November by four OFM provinces. The “2009 Interprovincial Senior Friars Retreat,” planned for Winter Park, Fla., is titled “Growing Old Grace-Fully: Spiritual and Practical Tips for the Road.”
Dismas Bonner, OFM, of Sacred Heart Province, and David Crank, OFM, of St. John the Baptist Province, with expertise in counseling, spiritual direction and issues associated with aging, will offer several presentations.
According to an informational flyer that was distributed by retreat organizers earlier this month, the Nov. 9 to 13 retreat will provide both spiritual and practical information. “For Friars Minor, the process of growing old gracefully is a Christian, Franciscan and human formation process,” the organizers said. “The conference will deal with the faith aspects, as well as the human developmental aspects of growth to full maturity in Christ.”
The event is being held at the San Pedro Center and is sponsored by four provinces — Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Sacred Heart and St. John the Baptist.
Interested Holy Name friars interested should contact Provincial Secretary, Michael Harlan, OFM, who has registration forms.
