ALLEGANY, N.Y. — Students, faculty and staff members of St. Bonaventure University will be participating in the university’s second annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life on Friday.

This overnight team event is held in more than 4,800 communities across the United States and is the largest fundraising event in the nation. Highlights of every Relay are the survivorship activities and Luminaria Ceremony, each acknowledging those who have been touched by cancer.

The SBU event on March 30 is being hosted by a new club on campus, Colleges Against Cancer.  Last year’s Relay raised more than $15,000. with 180 participants.

The event chairperson is SBU student Lisa Aeschbacher  who is being assisted by Sara Sheldon, who is serving as public relations chair.

The friars of Holy Name Province will soon have a close connection to the American Cancer Society.  This summer both organizations will have their New York offices in a new building on West 31st Street in Manhattan, where they will be offering many services to the community.

Information about cancer and about the event is available through the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345.
