ALLEGANY, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure University and its former athletic director have reached an amicable settlement of a lawsuit filed against the university.
Gothard Lane and SBU reached the settlement of the lawsuit filed by Lane in federal court in Buffalo, N.Y., with the assistance of United States Magistrate Judge Victor Bianchini of San Diego, Calif.
Lane had filed the lawsuit following his dismissal as a result of the eligibility scandal involving former player Jamil Terrell.
The suit will be dismissed upon satisfaction of the terms of the settlement. The cost to the University associated with this settlement will be borne by an insurance carrier. In connection with the settlement, the University acknowledges that the NCAA Committee on Infractions did not make any findings or impose any penalties against Lane in its Feb. 19, 2004, “St. Bonaventure University Public Infractions Report.”
It was agreed that the terms of the settlement are to remain confidential, and neither party will comment upon specifics.
Lane stated, “I am delighted that the two sides have reached this resolution, and I wish for St. Bonaventure and its athletics program every future success.”
