Felician College, with campuses in Lodi and Rutherford, N.j., recognized Sr. Margaret at its annual honors convocation on Jan. 28 for her work as a preeminent Franciscan scholar. This is the first time Felician bestowed an honorary degree at its honors convocation.
From 1980 to 1982, Sr. Margaret worked as part of an international commission on a new Rule of Life for the 400 institutes of the Franciscan Third Order Regular. The Rule was eventually approved by Pope John Paul II.
“In this year of the 25th anniversary of the Revised Third Order Rule, a better person for this first annual award could not have been chosen, given her work in its preparation,” said Sr. Mary Rosita Brennan, C.S.S.F., Felician’s vice president for academic affairs.
SBU will host the Festival of the 25th Anniversary of the Third Order Regular Rule on April 18-19.
This is the fifth honorary doctorate Sr. Margaret has received. She has been St. Bonaventure’s president since 2004.
