ALLEGANY, N.Y. — Educators, administrators, alumni and staff of Franciscan colleges are invited by St. Bonaventure University president Sr. Margaret Carney, OSF, to a May 23 to June 2 pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome. The deadline to register for the trip, sponsored by the Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities, is March 15.
Sr. Margaret will lead the pilgrimage with Jean Francois Godet-Calogeras, a professor in SBU’s Franciscan Institute. The itinerary includes visits to major historical sites of St. Francis and Clare in Assisi as well as St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
In a recent e-mail, Sr. Margaret wrote, “It would be wonderful to host you in the birthplaces of Francis, Clare and Bonaventure, and so many other great ancestors of our faith and Franciscan tradition.”
The trip includes six days in Assisi, seeing the city and visiting the sanctuaries of Chiesa Nuova, San Damiano, the Porziuncola, and the Basilicas of St. Francis and St. Clare. Enroute from Assisi to Rome, travelers will visit the sanctuary where St. Francis revitalized the crèche. Three days in Rome will include visits to St. John Lateran, the baptistry of the Franciscan Order and the Vatican of Francis’ day, and St. Peter’s Basilica. A bus tour will travel to significant Roman sites. There will be time for leisure, evaluation, and a final dinner together.
The cost of the trip ranges from $3,000 to $4,000, and includes airfare to Rome from New York City or Chicago.
