The HNP Ongoing Formation Committee is offering the friars of Holy Name Province a trip that will take 20 participants on a 10-day journey to sacred and historic places in Italy next spring. The pilgrimage, called the La Verna Program: Renewing our Franciscan Spirit and Vocation, gives friars the opportunity to step back in the company of their brothers, and to reflect on deepening a sense of commitment to live the Gospel as lesser brothers, according to an informational flyer prepared by the HNP Ongoing Formation Committee.
Friars interested in the May 16 to 27, 2013 pilgrimage are asked to register before Dec. 15 by submitting a $500 check to F. Edward Coughlin, OFM, provincial councilor, at St. Bonaventure University Friary. Edward will be leading the trip with Thomas Hartle, OFM. Both have guided similar pilgrimages in the past.
Several documents that describe the purpose, the itinerary and the cost of the pilgrimage will be mailed to friars within the next few weeks, according to Provincial Secretary Michael Harlan, OFM.
Another friar event is planned for next month. On Sept. 22, the HNP Wellness Committee is holding a diabetes workshop in New York City. Registrants are being accepted through Aug. 20. Information is available from Theresa Bartha in the Provincial Office at 646-473-0265 ext. 309.
On Oct. 20, friars and their partners-in-ministry will gather at St. Camillus Parish in Silver Spring, Md., for the Second Encuentro Franciscano. Information is available from Christopher Posch, OFM, chair of the HNP Hispanic Ministry Committee.
