ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Leaders of the Sacred Heart Province held their annual meeting Oct. 22-25 at the Mercy Center here.
Larry Nickels, OFM, director of the Office of Friar Life, began the meeting by reading an excerpt from the book Heralds of the King about the arrival of the first friars from Germany to Central Illinois.
During the three days of meetings, the 42 friars in attendance heard reports from various provincial offices, the provincial minister and vicar, and also the directors of the Franciscan Vocation Center.
According to the Nov. 1 issue of Around the Province, the Sacred Heart’s weekly newsletter, Provincial Minister John Doctor, OFM, reminded the participants that it has been 20 years since the promulgation of the province’s Pastoral Plan and he challenged attendees to consider whether a new plan is needed.
