Run for the Nuns Raises Money, Awareness in Cincinnati

HNP Communications Franciscan World

The Cincinnati Poor Clares held their annual fund-raising event, The Run for the Nuns, on Oct. 7 to promote goodwill among people of the city, family values, and wholesome enjoyment of sports and nature.

The event consisted of a run, a walk, a children’s run, as well as a blessing of pets in honor of the Feast of St. Francis. All were held at Harbor Point in Winton Woods in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Because the community is a contemplative one, members do not work outside the monastery; therefore, the organization’s ability to earn income is limited. The Run for the Nuns is the only fund-raiser held by the community.

Members of the Poor Clares want to make themselves better known, according to the community’s Web site, so that people become aware of their prayerful presence and call upon them for prayerful support.
