RALEIGH, N.C. — This year is the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Knights of Columbus by Fr. Michael J. McGivney in Hartford, Conn.
To celebrate and honor the anniversary, the Knights of Columbus All Saints Council 9709 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish here will honor the Franciscan friars who have worked tirelessly to establish and build the parish to what it is today with a $1,500 scholarship fund for minority students at the Franciscan School.
The Friars of Holy Name Province Minority Student Assistance Fund is financial assistance determined by need.
Trustee Dave Vogelpohl said: “One of the primary objectives of the St. Francis of Assisi All Saints Council is to support our church and community while promoting our Catholic values. By making a donation in honor of our friars to support the students, we are fulfilling this objective in a very direct way. By focusing this donation on the friars of Holy Name Province, we hope to inspire other parish organizations and individuals to also make contributions to this fund in honor of the Friars.”
People interested in making a donation should contact the parish by phone or through its Web site. Checks should be payable to St. Francis of Assisi Church, specifying that the funds go to the HNP Student Assistance Fund.
