QUINCY, Ill. — Quincy University here is preparing for a year of special events to celebrate 150 years since its founding in 1860 by the Franciscan missionaries from Germany.
The events, which began this week and conclude in May 2010, are:
• April 3, 2009: Presidential Inauguration
• Aug. 23, 2009: QU Community Kickoff Celebration
• Oct. 23 to 25, 2009: Homecoming Celebration
• Feb. 26 to 27, 2010: Quincy Community and Founding Celebration
• May 22 to 23, 2010: Into the Future Celebration
Although founded and maintained by Sacred Heart Province, several Holy Name friars have served at Quincy, including James Toal, OFM, who was president of the university from May 1983 to Jan. 1997, and Kevin Downey, OFM, vice president for development from 1983 to 1985.
