NEW YORK — A printed version of the HNP Strategic Plan 2008-2013 is being distributed to all Holy Name friars next week. The booklet, containing the document approved at the 2008 Chapter, was produced by Provincial Secretary Michael Harlan, OFM, and the Communications Office.
Accompanying the booklet will be a document outlining the progress of the HNP strategic plan in the first year, based on information from Francis Gunn, OFM,the Province’s coordinator for strategic planning.
In other Provincial Office news, Provincial Minister John O’Connor, OFM, has reminded friars that because Oct. 4, the feast of St. Francis, falls on a Sunday this year and because “it is our patronal feast,” the readings for the Solemnity of our Holy Father St. Francis can be substituted for the readings of the 27th Sunday in ordinary time.
Details about this can be found in the Aug. 7 letter sent from the American Franciscan Liturgical Commission (AFLC) to the provincial ministers of the English-speaking Conference, in which Fr. Thomas Washburn, OFM, AFLC chair, said: “The solemnity in honor of St. Francis is the proper celebration in any of our churches, chapels and oratories.”
The letter stated, “The solemnity of our Holy Father St. Francis is a titular solemnity, meaning that it ranks ahead of all other liturgical observances ahead of them in the Table of Precedence.”
