MARGATE, N.J. — Members of the Provincial Council convened here last week for a two-day meeting at the Franciscan Friary. Highlights of their discussions:
Visioning and Planning
Council members reviewed two reports from the Visioning and Planning Committee containing an analysis of data by Dr. Ann Dill based on input received through the 2006 friar gatherings. The Council had a lengthy conversation about the information based on the reflection questions provided by the committee.
Friar Transitions
The Provincial Council approved new assignments for the following friars:
David Hyman is assigned temporarily as parochial vicar at Sacred Heart Church in Tampa, Fla., effective
Feb.1.
Barry Langley is assigned as parochial vicar at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Beach Haven, N.J., effective Feb. 1.
Paul Chelus is assigned to the staff of St. Anthony Friary in St. Petersburg, Fla., effective March 1.
Properties
The Provincial Council received reports on properties associated with various ministries in the Province including: the building project on West 31st Street in New York City; the purchase of a building near St. Mary’s Church in Providence, R.I., to be used for a residence for friars; and an update on the proposed renovations of the bedrooms and bathrooms at St. Anthony Friary in Butler, N.J.
Capital Campaign
John Piccione, director of development and Saint Anthony’s Guild, met with the Council menbers to discuss a proposal for a capital campaign for the Province. The Council approved entering into an agreement with a consulting firm in Chicago to utilize their services for the fundraising campaign.
