SILVER SPRING, Md. — As it planned for its annual retreat and the first meeting of the Province’s 2011-2014 JPIC directorate, the staff of the Province’s Office of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation moved earlier this month to a new office — in Maryland.
As of June 1, the address of the JPIC Office is 504 Hexton Hill Rd., Silver Spring MD 20904. Its phone number is 301-680-2200 and fax is 301-384-1025.
The office was moved for two reasons, according to Russell Testa, director of the HNP JPIC Office. “The previous office building, where we rented space from Catholic Charities, was slated to be sold. Additionally, it became clear that to do our work for the Province, we needed to be in a separate space from the Franciscan Action Network as they transition to their new leadership and directions.”
He noted: “We are lucky to be sharing space with the National Advocacy Center of the Good Shepherd Sisters. We work on a number of similar issues, and it is nice to be working with colleagues that share common visions.”
The Province’s JPIC Office has been busy this spring, forming its new directorate and planning for the annual Local Contacts Retreat, held June 10 to 12 at Mount St. Francis Center in Ringwood, N.J. The focus of this year’s retreat was on communications among the many JPIC-oriented ministries, according to Testa.
The first meeting of the new directorate — a conference call — is set for June 27.
The JPIC Office staff, in conjunction with its directorate members, is working to enhance the Justice and Peace page of the Province’s website. The next section that will be added is an immigration efforts division of “JPIC In Action.” This follows the launch of the “Care for Creation Efforts” made live earlier this spring.
Holy Name Province’s JPIC Office was established in August 2000.
