The Provincial Administration has announced the dates and locations of two major events for next year.
The annual commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. will be Jan. 16 in Providence, R.I., at the Church of St. Mary on Broadway. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., with a reception following, said Frank Sevola, OFM, pastor.
The ordination of priests is scheduled for May 21 at Holy Name of Jesus Church in New York City.
The dates of other 2011 events, previously announced in HNP Today, are:
• Friar retreats: Two three-day retreats for friars, featuring Fr. Thomas Speier, OFM, discussing “Is St. Francis too Saintly for Us?” take place in January and February. Friars are asked to make a reservation for the Jan. 17 to 20 and Feb. 14 to 17 events by contacting guardian James Toal, OFM, at St. Anthony Friary in St. Petersburg, Fla., or John Mahon, OFM, guardian at St. Anthony Friary in Butler, N.J.
• The HNP Evangelization Directorate’s “Evangelizing Youth and Young Adults” workshop takes place March 19 in San Damiano Hall in Midtown Manhattan. It is open to all friars, young adult ministers and youth in Holy Name Province’s ministries. Details were given in the last issue of HNP Today.
The Washington Theological Union has announced that its annual Franciscan symposium will be April 8 to 10. Its theme is “Franciscans in the Public Square.” Among the speakers will be Russell Testa, director of the HNP Office for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation.
