SILVER SPRING, Md. — Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, former Archbishop of Washington, will be affiliated to Holy Name Province next week during the diaconate ordination of George Corrigan and Emerson Rodriguez at Holy Name College Chapel.
Upon his retirement, Holy Name Province wishes to acknowledge the great contributions made to the Church, specifically in the areas of immigration, Christian unity, and peace and justice, according to Francis DiSpigno.
John O’Connor added ”We chose Cardinal McCarrick because of the many years of support he has given the friars in both the Newark and Washington, D.C., archdioceses. The friars in our parishes worked with him in these archdioceses. “
“We are also honoring him for the balanced and compassionate leadership he has shown these past few years as cardinal archbishop of Washington and as a prophetic voice in the National Conference of Bishops,” John said.
The friars of Holy Name Province will affiliate Cardinal McCarrick to the Province and the Franciscan Order during the concluding rites of the Dec. 15 ordination.
All friars are welcome to join the celebration which begins at 5:00 p.m. Francis asks that interested attendees contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 301- 434 3400 before Dec. 8. Mass will be followed by preprandium and dinner in the friary.
