Province Mourns Death of Friends, Relatives

NEW YORK — Holy Name Province is mourning the deaths of the relatives of two friars as well as several friends.

• Robert Brick, brother of the late Maurice Brick, OFM, died Oct. 21 in Chapel Hill, N.C.

• Paul Ehrhardt, Sr., father of Joseph Ehrhardt, OFM, died Oct. 22. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated today in Belvidere, N.J.

The friars are also mourning the deaths of a former friar, two Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, and a member of another U.S. province.

• Frederick (Justin) McCarthy, 91, a former friar, died Oct. 26 in Delray Beach, Fla. He created the cartoon character Brother Juniper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Oct. 29 at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 15700 S. Military Trail, Delray Beach.

• Sr. J. Marie Kelly, OSF, died Oct. 8 at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany, N.Y.

• Sr. Jean Paul Bryan, OSF, died Oct. 14 at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse.

• Fr. Alan McCoy, OFM, provincial minister of St. Barbara Province from 1967 to 1976 and noted advocate of peace and justice, died Oct. 15 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles.
