NEW YORK — Holy Name Province is mourning the deaths of the aunt and brother-in-law of friars as well as a former friar.
Rita Teetz Brennan, aunt of Patrick Sieber, OFM, of Philadelphia, died July 12. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered July 16 at Christ the King Church in Philadelphia.
John De Munter, brother-in-law of Lawrence Burke, OFM, of Butler, N.J., died July 17. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated July 22 at Church of St. Mary of the Pines, Manahawkin, N.J.
Former friar William Gaydos died July 16 from leukemia. He was 59 years old.
In addition, the friars mourn the deaths of Fr. Reynold Jarecki, OFM, and Fr. Thomas Nicastro, OFM. Fr. Reynold, of Assumption BVM Province, died July 8. Fr. Thomas, a member of Immaculate Conception Province, died July 13.
Dr. Margaret Dennis Smith, and her stepson and his wife — Michael and Theresa Ferguson — died on July 5 in a plane crash in Fairfield, N.J. Dr. Smith is the sister of Sr. Marie Dennis, SFO, the director of the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns and co-president of Pax Christi International. Sr. Marie is a member of the Assisi Community in Washington, D.C.
