NEW YORK — An update of the 2010 HNP Directory will be posted on the Extranet next week. The edition will include friar assignments, e-mail addresses, and phone numbers as of Nov. 15, 2010. This and other updates have been announced by the HNP Communications Office.
Provincial Resources
Unlike past years, when the next year’s directory has been completed in November, the Communications Office and Provincial Secretary Michael Harlan, OFM, will produce the 2011 printed directory after the majority of new assignments take effect.
With an aim to have both the Catalog and Necrology updated in early 2011, the Communications Office has been focusing on compiling recent headshots of all HNP friars. These photos are also being used by Octavio Duran, OFM, to produce friar I.D. cards.
The CO staff is contacting roughly 50 friars and their guardians to arrange the taking of new headshots.
Recent CO Developments
Communicating Franciscan identity was the focus of communications director Jocelyn Thomas’s presentation at the 2010 HNP guardians meeting last month.
Thomas informed guardians of the major accomplishments of the Communications Office, focusing on an increased number of news distributed to media outlets, website improvements, social media use and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops guidelines. The CO produced several documents including ways friars can spread the word about the Province and where to find the Province and Vocation Office on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Website Enhancements
The office recently launched updates to the HNP.org home page that include showing the Province’s most recent tweet, posted a new photo album and rotating photos. In the works are plans to update the “Our Work” section of the website as well as adding a new “Communities” page that will inform visitors which Province ministries serve Hispanic, African-American and young adult communities.

Christopher VanHaight, OFM, a member of the Province’s Communications Advisory and Hispanic Ministry committees has been working with the Communications Office to compile information for the page that will be launched in January 2011.
Friars will notice updates to the Extranet section of HNP.org, including a new page for Chapter information, which includes links to all issues of the e-bulletin Crossroads 2011 and provides travel and venue information.
In addition, the CO is adding to the Extranet a variety of documents of use to friars. The “Documents” page is being reformatted to improve ease of use.
