Province Announces Dates of 2009 Events

NEW YORK — The Provincial Office has set the dates of many of the major events planned for 2009.

They include:

Jan. 18 — Martin Luther King, Jr. Day commemoration at St. Francis of Assisi Church, West 31st in New York

April 25 — Franciscan Family Study Day at St. Francis of Assisi Church, New York. This event celebrates the approval in 1209 by Pope Innocent III of Francis of Assisi’s proposal to live a Gospel way of life.

May 16 — Ordination to the priesthood at St. Francis of Assisi Church, New York

June 6 — Profession of Simple Vows at St. Paul’s Church, Wilmington, Del.

June 12 — Reception of Novices at St. Paul’s Church. This event is for friars only.

June — Jubilee celebration of vows at St. Francis of Assisi Church. The date will be announced soon, after Provincial leaders consult with the 25th and 50th anniversary of profession classes.

Aug. 22 — Profession of Solemn Vows at St. Francis of Assisi, New York

Oct. 24 — Holy Name Province Encuentro at St. Camillus Church, Silver Spring, Md.

A list of 2009 dates for prayer and action, as established by the United Nations and the Church, was published recently by the OFM International Council for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation. It includes World Day of Prayer for Peace on Jan. 1, International Day for the Sick on Feb. 11, and World Water Day on March 22.
