Planning Spirit of Assisi Anniversary

ROME — As people around the world prepare to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Spirit of Assisi — the gathering of representatives of the world’s major religions — the Curia’s Office of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation has provided a variety of resources on a new page of its website.

“This webpage contains mainly the material, in several languages, produced to help celebrate this historic event of great significance for the entire Franciscan family,” said Joseph Rozansky, OFM, director of the Order’s JPIC Office, in a recent email.

“We invite everyone to share this website so that the entire Franciscan family can participate in the event,” said Joe, in an email that provided a letter from six Franciscan general ministers, including Fr. Jose Rodriguez Carballo, OFM.

The letter, which acknowledged that “the world has changed much over the last 25 years” since the World Day of Prayer for Peace was held in Assisi on Oct. 27, 1986, stated: “We invite the entire Franciscan Family to prepare to celebrate this important anniversary. We are aware that many of you have been promoting annual remembrances of this event for years and encourage you to continue to do so.”

The May 30 email, written with Fr. Fabio L’amour, OFM, said, “One or more activities can be chosen to celebrate in your fraternity or Province. If possible, please send a short report of the activity to our JPIC General Office in Rome.”

Editor’s note: The Curia’s JPIC Office is currently working on resources about ways to promote concern for environmental justice in the lives and ministries of the friars. Information will follow in a future issue of HNP Today.
