According to the May 19 issue of The Beacon, newspaper of the Paterson Diocese, Bishop Serratelli told the jubilarians in his homily that, “with great joy, we celebrate the gift of religious vocations.” He noted: “The vocations of religious help us to see the face of God, even when darkness surrounds us. You are God’s love, even to the point of self-sacrifice.”

The religious renewed their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience at the Mass.

Later this month, the Province will host its own gathering recognizing six friars who mark anniversaries of profession this year. Francis, of Ringwood, will be joined on June 30 by classmates Michael Carnevale, OFM, of New York, Timothy Dauenhauer, OFM, of Buffalo, N.Y., Michael Joyce, OFM, of Providence, R.I., and Gerald Mudd, OFM, of Loudonville, N.Y., to celebrate 50 years of profession.
