PASSAIC, N.J. — Coinciding with World Day of Prayer for Vocations, the Diocese of Paterson honored religious brothers, sisters and priests marking jubilee anniversaries in 2011 with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Arthur Serratelli at St. Mary Church.
Of the 92 celebrated at the May 15 Mass, 13 are members of Holy Name Province. They are Lawrence Burke, OFM, Matthew Conlin, OFM, Joel Munzing, OFM, Leon Ristuccia, OFM, Henry Madden, OFM, Christian Camadella, OFM, Jeremiah McGinley, OFM, Cyril Seaman, OFM, Rayner Williams, OFM, Brian Linehan, OFM, Edwin Robinson, OFM, A. Francis Soucy, OFM, and Robert Norton, OFM. The friars were marking 70, 65, 60, 50 and 40 years of religious service.
According to the May 19 issue of The Beacon, newspaper of the Paterson Diocese, Bishop Serratelli told the jubilarians in his homily that, “with great joy, we celebrate the gift of religious vocations.” He noted: “The vocations of religious help us to see the face of God, even when darkness surrounds us. You are God’s love, even to the point of self-sacrifice.”
The religious renewed their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience at the Mass.
Later this month, the Province will host its own gathering recognizing six friars who mark anniversaries of profession this year. Francis, of Ringwood, will be joined on June 30 by classmates Michael Carnevale, OFM, of New York, Timothy Dauenhauer, OFM, of Buffalo, N.Y., Michael Joyce, OFM, of Providence, R.I., and Gerald Mudd, OFM, of Loudonville, N.Y., to celebrate 50 years of profession. Mark Reamer, OFM, of Raleigh, N.C., is marking 25 years of profession. The golden jubilarians will also remember Brian, who died April 19.
