ROME — The 187th General Chapter of the Order of Friars Minor is planned for May 2009 in Assisi. The announcement was made in the August/September issue of Fraternitas that shows the logo of the event, at right.
In choosing the theme, the General Minister said he wanted “to give privilege to continuity of the reflections in the preceding chapters. The Latin title ‘Verbum Domini nuntiantes in universe mundo’ evokes the passion Francis transmitted to us to become announcers of the fragrant words of the Lord throughout the world,” according to the newsletter of the Order.
Provincial Minister John O’Connor, OFM, will be among the many OFM friars attending the chapter, being held May 24 to June 20 at St. Mary of the Angels in Assisi.
This is the Order’s first major gathering since the Extraordinary Chapter held in the fall of 2006. It gathers together the provincial ministers from around the world.
