MARGATE, N.J. — The picturesque Franciscan vacation house on the New Jersey shore is the setting for “Seaside Conversations,” an ongoing formation opportunity for friars offered early next year and through the spring.

Held Thursday evening to Friday at noon in February, March and April, the conversations feature presentations by three Holy Name friars discussing where the Church is going, preaching, and understanding liturgical changes.

The three programs are:

· Vincent Cushing, OFM, discusses “Present Directions of the Church,” Feb. 4 to 5.
· James Scullion, OFM, presents “Preaching Luke-Acts,” March 11 to 12.
· Daniel Grigassy, OFM, offers “Challenges of the Recent Liturgical Changes,” April 22 to 23.

The conversations begin on Thursday with dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by presentations at 7 p.m. The following day starts at 10 a.m. with presentation and discussion, followed by lunch at noon. Friars are welcome to come early and stay late, according to Margate hosts Bernard Splawski, OFM, and Boniface Hanley, OFM.

To make a reservation, contact Bernie or Boniface at 609-822-9552, or margate1@comcast.net.

These are just two of the educational opportunities, including friar retreats, scheduled for friars next year.
