NEW YORK — The Provincial Council announced several transitions after its May 7 meeting.
John “Gus” Richardson, OFM, has received permission to retire from active ministry, and is residing at St. Anthony Friary, Butler, N.J., effective May 9. More details about Gus, who until recently was pastor of St. Mary Church in Obernburg, N.Y., will appear in an upcoming issue of this newsletter.
The Council also approved the request of two friars from the Province of Christ the King in Western Canada (Edmonton) to transfer to Holy Name Province. Christ the King Province also agreed, and so Holy Name officially welcomes Eric Dwayne Fernandes, OFM, and Francis Critch, OFM.
Dwayne, 39, is a native of Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India. After studying for the Diocese of Calgary, he became a postulant for the Order in Canada in 2005. He spent his year’s novitiate in Wilmington, Del., in 2006-2007, and this year has been on a pastoral internship at St. Anthony Shrine in Boston.
Frank, 46, a native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, became a postulant in Edmonton in 2006. He has been a novice this past year in Wilmington and is a candidate for profession in June.
Cassian Miles, OFM, is temporarily residing at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J., while recuperating from hip replacement surgery. He moved there on May 9.
